Jimmy Clay

The Jimmy Clay Golf Course opened in 1974; designed by noted golf course architect Joe Finger. Located in Southeast Austin and surrounded by Williamson Creek, the course plays 6,918 yards through traditional tree-lined fairways and elevated open greens.

Jimmy Clay underwent a major renovation of 3 holes in 2007 that were redesigned to include a challenging water feature near an island green. All of the greens were replanted and bunkers completely rebuilt. In 2015, a second renovation was done which included the reshaping of 4 of the greens to further improve conditions and playability. The driving range was enlarged and reshaped with larger targets and landing areas and featuring a new elevated hitting area for better visibility; creating a premier practice facility for golf patrons.

The Jimmy Clay Golf Course became part of a 36-hole complex with the addition of the Roy Kizer Golf Course in 1994. Together, the two courses make up one of the finest and diverse 36 hole public complexes in the state.

Roy Kizer

Roy Kizer Golf Course is a links-style layout spread over 200 acres in Southeast Austin. With 35 acres of lakes and 22 acres of wetlands, the golf course offers residency to migratory waterfowl in the area and is a beautiful track for all skill levels.

The course was named for Roy Kizer, a long time golf course superintendent at Lions Municipal Golf Course from 1937 until his retirement in 1973. Mr. Roy Kizer earned the respect of the Austin golf community through his dedication to the course and his support of junior golf in the City of Austin.

Hancock

Hancock is a pay station operation 7 days a week with no pro shop operations and walking only. Payment will be verified.

Founded in 1899 by Lewis Hancock, former mayor of Austin from 1895-1897, the Hancock Golf Course stands today as one of the oldest golf courses in the state of Texas. Although the course was re-named after Mr. Hancock in 1946, it was the original site of the Austin Country Club. At one time, the course maintained sand greens and 18 holes. Today, Hancock Golf Course is located in the heart of Austin. This par 35, 9-hole course carries up and down hills over beautiful Waller Creek. The old course is relatively short by modern standards, featuring small, well-manicured greens typical of the era in which it was built. Noted Austin player and teacher, Harvey Penick, started his professional career as a caddy at this location of Austin Country Club and remained with the club for over 70 years. Penick was the golf coach at the University of Texas at Austin from 1931 to 1963, coaching the Longhorns to 21 Southwest Conference championships in 33 years.

Morris Williams

The Morris Williams Golf Course is located east of downtown Austin. Enjoy views of the Austin skyline as you play the recently renovated course or relax in a rocking chair on the porch overlooking the entire course.

Morris Williams opened in 1964 as Austin's 3rd public course. Designed by Leon Howard, one of the most prolific course architects of the time, the course features elevated, contoured greens and rolling terrain.

Named after Morris Williams Jr., one of the best golfers ever developed in Austin, Williams Jr. won every trophy in the area; from the Texas Jr. Championship to the National Air Force Trophy, now named in his honor. He lost his life as a young man during the Korean war in a jet plane crash. Golf ATX is proud to have his name in our history books and on our score cards.

The course once served as the home for the UT golf team under legendary coaches Harvey Penick and George Hannon. During this time, UT won 2 NCAA Championships with teams led by Tom Kite & Ben Crenshaw.

Lions Municipal

Lions Municipal Golf Course has long been one of the City's most popular courses. In 1924, the Lions Club opened Lions Municipal, the first public golf course in the city. The group leased part of UT's Brackenridge Tract and converted the property into a nine-hole facility. The course was later expanded to 18 holes. The course retained the name "Lions Municipal" or "Muny" after the transfer of the lease to the city in 1936.

Lions has hosted many notable golfers, including Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson, Sandra Haynie, Tom Kite and Ben Crenshaw. Lions also hosts Texas' oldest amateur tournament, the Firecracker Open.

Lions was selected by the Texas Golf Hall of Fame and added to the Texas Registry of Historic Golf Courses. Lions is also listed on the Registration of National Historical Places by the National Park Service, recognized as one of the first courses in the South to desegregate prior to the Supreme Court decision in Brown V. Board of Education in 1954.

While "Muny" has changed over the years, it remains a quality test to Austin's most loyal golf patrons.
